Hello techies.
I have a problem with the on off button on my hard drive, I had a chap come down and all he did was super glue it and charged #30.00, now it is going wrong again, I have to be very careful when I use it.
Any ideas how much a new hard drive would be, or how I can get it permanently fixed at a reasonable charge?
Thanks in advance to those whose reply with help.

If you communicated as much detail to us as you gave to him, I'm not surprised he glued it and vanished. It is just a button.
£ 30 is not unreasonable. What did you expect a new enclosure or a specially milled part?GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.

One- I dont know what make or model it is, I didnt buy it. I have found a manual, it is a Samsung RW Combo Drive, and it is the eject button that has broken inside, it is working but I have to be very careful how I push it.
No need for sarcasm Bookduck, I am a 68year old pensioner, not exactly brought up with this technology!
Thank you Custardy but the model, year of capacity is not going to help you to help me, It is just the on/off button in the casing that gets stuck because it has the connection to the hard drive broken that was why the chap superglued it!You live..You learn.:)0 -
So it's not a power button or the hard drive. It's the eject button on the Optical drive? If that's right then for £30 you could buy a whole new DVD Writer which would actually be better. Your post is very confused, is it the Combo Drive or the Hard Drive, is it an eject button or power (on/off) button. Are we talking about an external hard disc as we all originally thought or something on the computer base unit itself?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Superscraper, its on the hard drive itself, the button I push to activate the hard drive then I push the button on the computer to start it all up.
What the chap did was, remove the cover from the hard drive and the tail end of the button had broken and he superglued it then put it all back together again, but I dont want this problem, how much should I be expected to pay for a new button or a new hard drive unit? You live..You learn.:)0 -

So just to get this clear, is this an external hard drive that's outside of the computer? If it is I don't see the relevance of the combo drive and the eject button unless this is an additional problem you are having."She is quite the oddball. I certainly second this......some people.... I thought this forum was about helping people, not scouring the forums with a gun to shoot people down.
The post is a bit confusing I will admit....... I would have been positive it was the base unit power button, then renegade comes back with the samsung combi drive, then its "the button I push to activate the hard drive then I push the button on the computer to start it all up.
To clarify things is it
1. The button you push on the Base unit to start the computer ?
2. The button you push To open the Samsung Combi drive ?
I have nothing better to do!!!!

I'm not convinced that this has got anything to do with a hard drive. Renegade, the following is an example of the two types of hard drive (external and internal) with an object for scale. Is what you're talking about anything like them at all?

A CD RW Combi drive isn't a hard drive. Is the problem part something you put discs (CDs, DVDs) into?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
