Hi,
I wanted to ask is it safe to travel with baby after 6 months. My dc will be 6 months in feb and i want to visit my family in amsterdam (end of Feb), india (march )and america (again in march).
Will this be too much for baby? are there any issues with regards to safety and his wellbeing? I get advise from my mum that i should not travel until dc is one year old but i cant wait as then i will be starting work and will have no holidays to visit my family all over the world. Please share your advise and experiences.
thanks.

I personally wouldn't do India with such a young child because of vaccinations but see nothing with Amsterdam, and provided you are OK with the travelling America. I regularly flew backwards and forwards between UK and Ireland with both my two (from before 6 months old) and took my youngest on holiday to Majorca when she was 6 months old, which was a 3-4 hour flight as I recall.
For India though, perhaps you should discuss with either doctor or health visitor as to whether this is sensible?0 -
I have talked to GP about india and he said i need to have malaria and hepatitis vaccines done for my baby which i will do 2 weeks before travelling.0

My bb travelled last year when she is 3 months old to china. That she must complete her vacinatio which 1,2 and 3 months before she went. She came back here for her next vacinations which is 12, 13 months. plus we request for her hepatitis b if her want to travel next time. ther are more vacinations which you can find out by phone nhs 08454647. they are very nice and they even send you all infomations which you might or might not need these vacinations..such as rabbies, malaria, thypoid etc..
for the best of your bb i suggest don let your bb travel more places because your bb will stress and she/he will sudden lost weight or appetite. plus weather condition will more bad.0 -
I've taken my children abroad when they were babies. Our daughter will have just turned one when we go to Turkey later this year.
Take a big bag on the plane with plenty of nappies, wipes, spare clothing, food, milk (if it is allowed these days!) etc. Then if you are delayed or your case goes missing, you've got stuff to keep you going for a little while. Here I go again on my own....0 -
My friend flew to the UK from australis with their 4 day old baby with no problems! The baby was meant to wait until they moved to the UK!0

I have travelled with young children. I was breastfeeding so I didn't need to worry about sterilization.
You need to be careful with vaccinations. I went to Mexico when my daughter was 6 months old. There were several vaccinations that neither I (breastfeeding) or my daughter 6 months old could have including malaria tablets. That was in 2000, but you can now get malaria tablet for babies.
As we were staying only in a beachside resort I felt the risk was OK without the vaccinations. I never left the resort other that the trip to the airport.
Please see someone who knows about the vaccinations (practise nurse), it wasn't until she looked into it that she found out that my baby couldn't have them.

I travelled with a 10 month old to france and found warming baby food and bottles impossible. If I did it again I would make sure I was still breastfeeding and stock up on plenty of soft fruits to avoid the jar problem!0

i travelled to pakistan with my baby when she was 5 months old, took a sterilizing unit and kettle and all the normal things i would use here for her and since she was on bottled feeds and jars she was absolutely fine.
the travelling was ok we booked a flight that was overnight and also she slept in my lap for the whole journey so she was not aware of any change in place.
also filled all her bottles with boiled water for the flight and journeys to/from home and then had the ready measured powder packs to just add to the bottles - easier!
its no hassle travelling with them.:T Thanks to all lovely MSE'rs - you are great friends :T0
