I bought a new computer with Windows XP, yesterday, because my old (6years) computer had 'died'. I also bought a Hard drive 'Caddy' so I could turn a IDE HDD into an external USB drive, and therefore put my old HDD in and copy the files to my new comp. I am in the process of doing this now but am struggling with my MP3 files. I can easily copy and paste MP3s that I have ripped myself from my own CDs, but MP3 files that I have downloaded I can't copy across ( I can't play them either). I also cannot change the file name or extension, so I am thinking that there is some kind of protection on these MP3s!
Can anyone help me with this problem as I would quite like my MP3s on my new computer! Thanks

This is one of the problems buying music legally, the tracks are protected by DRM to prevent exactly what you are trying to do. Otherwise one person could legally buy the track and then distribute it to all of their friends and relatives for free. Looks like you will have to do some ripping! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
