Ownership Details for Legal Action

Options
Oranges Ladies-Only Gym in Doncaster which signed up my mother and my sister by lying and blatant misrepresentation. They now refuse to take any action to refund their annual membership fees.

I am trying to obtain their legal ownership details so I can take legal action but do not know where I would get it from. The gym itself refuses to give the details.

Can I just take action against the gym per se without knowing whether it is a limited company or in private owneship?

Have a look at the Companies House website. Basic information is available for free, and other information at a very low charge.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I have tried Companies House and there is no record for a company of that name based at that address.

The registered address may not be at the gym, it could be another branch or the accountants or sols used by the company.

You could just send the claim to the address of the gym, but if it is not addressed to the right person and address your claim could end up being struck out.

  • So how then do I find the details if I don't know who owns the gym? That is exactly my problem, I know the details of the gym but I don't know who owns it. How do I find out?

Is the name of the gym listed at all on Companies House? Are there any other branches?

You need to do some detective work ...

The Oranges women only gym in Colchester seemed to get into trouble in 2000. Perhaps Oranges is trading name rather than a company name - so, when Companies House register is searchable again tomorrow, try again.
  • I have checked Companies House and there is one Oranges Ladies Health Club based in Wakefield (no.03608732) but it has been dissolved a few months ago. If I take action just against the address and it turns out that someone else owns the business then will I need to start again or can I just transfer the action to the owner?
