Abbey 0% 3 month deal coming to an end

I opened my Abbey c/c account towards the middle of October, however on this months statement it says there will be 0% interest on next months statement, that is misleading because there will be interest if I don't pay the whole balance off this month. I have a balance of £2000 and the £50 cashback offer could be wiped out by interest, they are sneaky !!!!!!s.

I did open my cc account in october, never used the card as I still can't log into my online account. That was a waste of time.

I agree it is misleading but there shouldn't be any interest on your next month's statement but rather the interest will start accumulating from that date. Whilst you need to get the minimum payment in as usual, paying off the entire balance just before the statement date should avoid interest accruing for payment the following month.

I spent nearly 20 minutes on the 0845 number setting up the internet banking, it was a Sheffield call centre and the kid on the phone went to Hallam uny. Never did get anything through the post on getting on the internet banking, not willing to waste more money on phoning them, card will be binned next month.

If you have the card and the PIN, why not use it for your supermarket shopping till end of March and gain 5% cashback each month?

You do get a paper statement and a fair amount of time to pay which you can do online from another bank account.

I guess you don't think it worth the trouble - and I certainly wouldn't say Abbey were performing very well on customer service these days!
  • Wasn't the 5% only upto a maximum of £50 cashback? I've already had that much so not much point keep using it.
  • I too opened an Abbey credit card account in October. Because of the late arrival of my statement I had to telephone them for the current balance. I also asked for confirmation of the end of the 0% interest on purchases, and was advised it ended on 1st January! According to the credit card agreement I signed, and taking the agreement start date given to me by Abbey, my interest free period should end on 5th February (the statement date following the end of the three month period).

In view of this and their inability to provide me with online sign-on details, I have paid the outstanding balance, requested a refund of all interest charged and closed the account.

I thought it was just me having problems getting my log in details for the online access. I've been sent 2 of the 3 passwords/IDs needed to log in but am missing the third. I've given up bothering getting them as I'll stop using the card at the end of the 5% on supermarket spending at the end of March.

Yes, of course. I thought you had decided not to use the card and had not used it to date.

I am using mine for supermarket shopping - and only until I reach the £50 mark.
