Reduced Mac's and Apple Products

I was just looking round for the cheapest Macbook Air i could find and found this section on the apple website (seriously took me ages).
The prices for the base models are:

Macbook: £601
Macbook Air: £1031
Macbook Pro: £1104
Mac Mini: £359
iMac: £702
Mac Pro: £1468

There are other discounts like you can save £150 on apple care. I know its a stor for higher education and that 'technically' you need to be a student but it doesnt ask for any i.d and if youre a student its perfect.

  • "Who is Eligible To Purchase?
The following education individuals are eligible to purchase through the Apple Store for Education Individuals:
    - a teacher, lecturer, tutor or other supervisor of students at a UK education establishment
    - a student aged 18 and over with a valid student card, attending, or accepted into, a UK education establishment
    - a parent purchasing on behalf of their child who is a student currently attending or accepted into a UK Higher or Further Education establishment"

If you are doing it through the higher education link you need to access the apple site via the university computer system...

I didnt know that, but does it still go all the way to check out? I havent used it because ive decided to get a macbook using a staff discount.
  • Hey; just to let you know to purchase from the Higher Education Store you need to post/email a copy of your student card; and even then it's only certain institutions allowed to take advantage of the full discount.
    Hope that helps!

Not always. A friend of mine used to be at a University (which is how I became aware of the deal) and at that University the easiest way was to buy it from that University's computers (as they are all on the same subnet and Apple's site recognises them as such) and you then didn't have to send off copies of your card.

Other ways he considered (he was too lazy to walk to campus) using was bouncing it off a University server (if they have Unix boxes you could SSH tunnel through, or if there are web proxies that are free for you to use) or just SMSing a friend and getting them to do it.

    Let's face it, where there's a will (or a £100+ to save) there's a way,

Actually you don't need to provide any evidence, I'm a student and my missus is a lecturer and we've both bought stuff with the educational discount without showing any student/staff ID.

The system is supposed to work by detecting the proxy server on the computer you're using to determine your University status. What might be happening is that the OP is logged into the 'Education' discount section which doesn't do this. The downside being that the discounts here are less than for the 'Higher education' section.

Another thing to note is that if you ask in the apple stores for a university student/staff discount then they will do this but the discount is much less than on the website!
