renting repairs

Hi all

Just got an email from the company i rent my house out with i have them looking after the management side of things as i no longer live in the area. hey want me to ok any repair upto the value of £75 without getting permission of me to carry the work out. I think i am going to say no i wish to be told about any fault repair etc before they do anything as i feel things like a dripping tap ,blown fuses etc, could end up costing a small fortune when i have family who live in the area who are more than capable of doing minor maintenance as many have trades such as roofers/electricians etc

Any opinions appricatiated

I would tell the agent just what you have said here. In fact, the agent may be glad to know of any tradespeople he may be able to call on re other tenants as in some areas good tradesmen are like gold dust. Mr K owns property and is in similar position. Agent always tells him before doing anything unless it is emergency and he can't get hold of Mr K. (very rare).

Depends what your agreement says. We had similar situation last year but in our contract it said they would sort out 'repairs', that we had signed for. Now we know better and said if anything needs repairing contact so and so or us directly before going ahead with anything.
