  • Biggish lender with good service, we have a good relationship with them for verious reasons. The only issue I have is they still charge annual interest. They have some very good fixed rates but depending on the loan size ypu can beat them. Chose the 5 yr 5.63% with Nationwide over the 5.49% or 5.45% (cant remember) with bristol and west, the payments were more expensive as it was a large loan and my client wanted to make £4-500 over payments a month!

However as a lender they are fine.

  • my buyer recently used them and found the service awful. They sat on paperwork for 7 weeks before even coming to survey. I dont know if Giraffe were involved (sure someone can confirm?) or if he binned Giraffe to go with B&W..

That said, once valuation was done we completed in record time, although were incredibly slow to release funds on completion.

I've been with them for the last 3 years and have found them excellent up to now.I'm remortgaging due to my coming to my end of deal..I would stay with them but I wish to make large overpayments which they don't allow and also when making overpayments I don't want the interest calculating yearly.
So my mortgage advisor has applied for a fast track flexible tracker with the Abbey...he did this monday 10.30am and at 11.30 am Abbey phoned to ask if they could do the survey friday(just gone)...what a quick service...5 days..and the surveyor said he'd have the details back to Abbey by monday at the latest....we were given the AIP monday...the solicitor contacted me wednesday...so quick ...
I'm S/E and can't believe that I can maybe get a mortgage from a high stret lender...the conditions to apply were that we have an excellent credit rating and at LTV of 75% ..hope this helps..good mortgage advisors are the best way to go as it's a minefield out there..hope this helps

Don't have my mortgage with them (went through a broker) but have had savings etc with them for ages. A reputable high street name (though perhaps only well known in the South West?).

Fond memories of B&W - when we were looking for our first mortgage 15 years ago they were the only lender willing to talk to us - Thanks B&W (even though you mis-sold me an endowment, but hey it was all the rage!)

Thankyou, I Was Wanting A Mortgage With Interest Calculated Daily Though.

Although Would It Make Much Of A Difference On A £57,000 Mortgage Over 17 Years? I Was Looking At Their 5 Year Fixed Rate.
  • Not loads but enough to go for daily. More so if you make over payments.

Most unlike the B&W I have used. I did more than normal with them last year and cannot complain about service.

Bristol and West were very well known in this part of the Country, or at least they were until Britannia took them over. They are fine, run a number of accounts linked to local football Clubs, and have always seemed pretty good. Ooooh Arrrrr.......
  • Aren't these owned by Britannia ????
