Travelling at peak hours will always be expensive.
Have you tried splitting the tickets?

ok, yes i have, i never travel by train normally so thats why i asked for advice. Reading through the threads it seems as splitting is the best option but all i can get is:
reading to bristol - return is £97
2 singles- £82
reading to didcot return is £7.40, and then single from dicot to BTM is £17 which makes one days travel about £41.
Just wanted to see if it can be done for less?0 -
Booked in advance tickets betwen Didcot and BTM can be as little as £5.50 each way. Peak hour availablity is not too bad - admittedly for a bit more than that. The return is usually cheaper - you don't HAVE to buy the same price each way.0
