Hi All,
Not sure if this has been posted before but I'm in need of help. Right I've just checked my bank (As I was off out tonight!), and the banks taken 2 direct debits out today, that should have come out 21st (Monday). I phoned them up, and they explained that because it's monday, and the money goes out at midnight before, which is a sunday, they cant process it sunday so it had to be saturday??? I cant see how that's fair on me though - Taken the money 2 days early...? Shouldn't it just have been tuesday if they couldnt do it monday.
I'm fuming as I cant go out tonight now!!!

Working days are Monday to Friday. So if DD's are due out on Monday then they will show on Saturday. That is the same for money due to go into the account on a Monday.
It is to do with the Bank Of England clearing accounts Monday to Friday excluding weekends0 -
Are the payments dated today or Monday?
Edit: Also, if you were planning to go out using the money that was debited, how were you planning to get that money back into the account in time to cover the payments if they went out on time during the small hours of Monday morning?0 -
If you had taken money out today you would have been short when the D/D are processed on Monday.
It looks like you have to make a choice - a night out or paying your bills.0 -
Oh great, a post from Nat West staff member. My bank. No offence to yourself at all, but you work for a bank. My bank and I dont like my bank.
So anyone else post? lol - Am I just been stupid, or does it seem unfair?0 -
On my bank statement it says 21/01/08 online...
I honestly didn't know I had these DD's. I've recently got a contract phone, and they've added insurance on, and "technical phone help". Which isnt what I wanted and cancelled when ordering my phone. But, they added them.0 -
MRC, I have posted hundreds of articles online and am a Moderator of another bank charges forum so i think you will find that my posts are pretty accurate.
If you doubt my usefulness then google: "Nattie" and "Bank Charges" or just simply "NatWestStaffMember".
When you do, you will know who I am and what I do. No Offence has been taken BTW(I know where you are coming from).0 -

I guess your right with that. I'm glad in a way, but fuming at the time lol. But, it's paid (Iim phoning monday to get the money back as I dont need the services) and Nat West dont get another penny from charges! (Thank god!!)
Oh and natweststaffmember, I dont mean anything personal against yourself, please dont think that at all.
Many thanks0 -
my account when mine is due out say i have one today 19th but its coming out monday and when its due say monday it comes out monday
so why are natwest so different0 -
If you have incurred charges due to the mobile phone shop fraudulently adding insurance to your mobile phone contract, you should claim these back from your mobile phone retailer.
If you have just got a new mobile phone, you should have received a bill which specifies the amount to be collected by direct debit. If this is not the cause, the you should be able to reclaim the charges as the direct debit guarantee states that you should be informed in advance of the amount to be debited from your account.
Unfortunately, if you have already had the bill or some sort of communication to state the amount to be debited, then you should read your paperwork more carefully.0
