Can you put a Sky dish in the loft?
Just wondering because we're getting a house rewired and one electrician asked if we wanted the cables put in for Sky saying that they run them up into the loft and then usually arrange to meet the Sky installer to connect them up. I'm not sure if he meant that they fit the dish in the loft or that the run the cables back out of the house from the loft and put the dish on the external wall.
The electrician we have chosen says that they don't do Sky points but we're hoping that if we find out exactly how it is done (will double check with Sky at a later date) we'll be able to lay the cables in the same ducts as for the TV aerials.

You can put one in the loft, but you won't get a signal"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I could be wrong but I think this is just to save having the Sky cable on the outside of the house. I would think the dish would still be on the outside as usual but with neater (i.e. hidden) wires.0

If we can we'd rather hide the cables in the walls than run them 20 feet down the living room hence why we want to run them up to the loft (or out through the ceiling/floorspace).0 -

Nah....it's just Friday night and I'm stuck on the couch with a very large belly and a big box of choccies looking for a cheap laff. lol
Agree about the cables. Cables are unsightly and should be hidden at all costs. Hope that your move is going well/smoothly"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I have noticed a neighbour of ours installed a sky minidish in his lounge on the windowsill working "through the glass window" - suppose that radio wave is like lights and can pass thru glass, but I dont think it'll work through concrete roof-tiles.
I also reckon electrician is offering to run the cables up to loft for later connection to outside dish.

I think roof tiles block out the signal but it is certainly possible to receive a signal through glass. If you had a roof window in the right place you could certainly put the dish in the loft.
If you think a dish is unsightly, or you are not allowed to have one you can get dishes that are hidden inside globe lights, clear dishes, and receivers that are antennas rather than conventional dishes.
If you are lucky enough to be able to put the dish on the chimney then I think they are hardly noticeable at all.0 -
sky dishes as all satellite dishes need "true line of SIGHT" to work so it needs to see the satellite. So it could work in the loft if you had a clear roof or section of roof and not the thermal type of glass with a copper coating. If i was you and i wanted a discrete installation i would use an independet installer and not one of the sky boys (no disrespect but these guys put up lots of dishes for little money so need to do lots to earn so cant afford harder jobs) i was in the trade and i know there are PLENTY of good installers ou there who do discrete installs but as most things at a cost. Mine is at the back of my house where i wanted it and not stuck on the front any help pm mebe happy!0
