Hi
Can I please get help advise on how to set up connection with PS3 to use online.
We have bt internet at present but its not wireless, we have a silver speedtouch box which we have had for about 3 years. How do with connection to online.
Presume I will have to go buy a wireless router, but which one and then what do I do, I don't know much about setting up these things. also does the box I know have stay where it is and we can still use it while someone is online with pS3?
thanks in advance.

Hi, if you've been with BT for a while then the chances are that you're out of contract. You've got a few options:
1 - Phone BT up and ask to be put through to the disconnections bunch (ask for a MAC code), they'll give you a bit of interrogation over why you want to leave and say it's because you need a wireless router and price. Chances are that they'll offer you a home hub (they're wireless router) and possibly a discount on your line rental for a while.
2 - As 1 but get your MAC code and move to somewhere else. If you look around you'll see that there's a few offers such as the carphone warehouse 'free laptop'. If you decide to go for that one then you'll probably be best checking up on the main MSE site for the broadband article.
3 - Buy the router, virtually any wireless ADSL modem router will do the job.
Once you've got the new router, whichever approach you take, you'll need to use it instead of the current speedtouch one. Most of them will come with installation CDs but you should be able to get some help on here when you've got it before you go and install it.
Hope that helps
Jeff
PS - I've got a PS3 and a BT home hub, they're an absolute doddle to set up together but I've noticed some issues with the hub when playing online PC games, nothing yet when on the PS3.Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0 -
hi fab

If you have been with BT for more than 12 months (which you have judging by your post) just call them and ask for a new "home hub" they will send one out to you no charges, although you will have to sign up for a further 12months with BT.. (while your there ask for a reduction in your monthly fee they reduced ours by a few ££).. when the new hub arrives its simple to set up.. just click your ethernet cable into the hub .. then into the ps3 :j .. or you can go wireless but imo the conection can be poor.
Once the new hub arrives ask on the forum for detailed advice on how to set the ps3 up."Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0
