    However, if there is only a claim for an incident involving my son, this will not affect my own and separate insurance cover. As I hardly ever drive my son's car this probably won't occur.

    yes it will affect all your insurance, as the policies are in your name - it is still your insurance, even though you dont actually drive the car, so you are the one held accountable for any claim made, not your son

    he only has to declare he has been involved in an accident, as he hasnt made any claims on insurnace as he doesnt hold any insurance in his own name to claim against

    so should an accident occur, he will get higher premiums for being a risky driver, and you will get higher premiums for having made a claim for an accident he had, whilst insured under your policy
