Help! I need to cancel an old index credit card

Please help...My sister has an old Index credit card with no balance but a £3500 credit limit. She seriously needs to improve her credit rating to be able to clear debt on other cards so this card must be cancelled. She has called the number on card (which is answered as Littlewoods Personal Finance) but it is impossible to speak to a real person and they just keep you endlessly on hold (it's not a free number either).
I have tried Littlewood's catalogue, Littlewoods on-line and Littlewoods Customer Service Centre but no help there either. I even tried Barclays because someone suggested they might now own Littlewoods Personal Finance but again no luck.
Has anyone got any suggestions?

Have you the telephone number you dialled.0

If your sister orders a copy of her credit report, she'll find the address details of the lender are appended to it.0

The number is 0845 300 0542. I gave up after holding for ten minutes, it doesn't matter which option you select you never get through to a real person, i'll try your suggestion though.0

Just in case anyone was interested, she managed to get through on the number on the card today and was able to cancel the card. Interestingly they answered the call 'Barclaycard'!0

From http://www.saynoto0870.com/ the number is down as Woolwich (Barclays). They offer an alternative number of 0161 9308930 which may be more use if you get free calls to landline numbers. Alternatively contact the lender through the details on your credit report as already suggested above.
I find with some (not all) automated services if you don't select any options they assume you don't have a touch tone phone and put you straight through to customer services... some just cut you off however!0
