Paypal Refund Nightmare!

I am at my wits end with Paypal after over a month of phone call, faxes and sending a letter to them!

On the 5th December £42 was taken out of my account by Paypal. I enquired at the bank and it came up "San Jose" Paypal. Now i havent used Paypal for anything for £42 for over six weeks. In fact my last transaction was at the end of October for £42 which was correctly taken out of my account, so it appeared the money had been taken out twice by mistake.

I gave Paypal a call and the woman who was very helpful told me that they had received several calls with the same problem. It was a fault at Paypal's end and for some reason which she didnt know exactly transactions around the 25th-27th October had been duplicated. No worries she said, get a copy of the duplicate copy printed off from your bank and fax it to the number she gave me and i should have my money in a weeks time.

Faxed it over with all relevent details on it and a week and a half passed. Nothing.

I called them back and the woman said they had no record of my call or had not received any fax from me!!??? She gave me TWO different numbers to fax the details to AGAIN and said i would receive a confirmation e mail informing me they had received my fax and informing me of the refund.

Faxed it over to both numbers and once agian waited...... nothing!!

As it was Christams time by this time i left it till the silly season had passed them faxed my details over again. Nothing. Called them up and explained i was extremley annoyed and once again they claimed to have received no faxes from me!! The woman gave me the story that they receive "hundreds" of faxes each day and it could have got "lost" in the system. She then drops the bombsheel that they have no record of the £42 being taken out of my account despite the fact im sitting with a copy of it in front of me with ALL of Paypal's details on it!!!!  Iasked why i had been told in the first place why i had been told it was Paypal's fault and i would get a refund and also quizzed her if she had received similar calls to mine which unsurprisingly she had!!!

Once again i faxed over the details and surprise surprise, nothing!!

Fourth phone call on Monday and i let rip to them this time!!! I now get told to POST the details over to Dublin where there offices are and i would receive an e mail telling me when they receive it and take it from there. Its Saturday now and guess what? NOTHING!!!

Now i know £42 isnt a lot to some folk but i aint on a great wage and its a lot to me and Paypal's incompetence is shocking!! Does anyone have any advice/suggestions what to do now? Or has anyone had a similar experience? Any advice or help would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

Has it had time to arrive? I don't know how fast the post is to Dublin. Did you send it by a signed-for method? (I hope so)

I don't know if you've tried persuing this by email, but if not, I would... the more people you have trying to sort it out, the better imo.

  • I would tell you bank that you didn't authorise this transaction, they might have some advice to help you get your money back.

Been a week now and still nothing. I couldnt send it recorded delivery as Dublin is outside the UK. Going to phone them again tomorrow.

The bank is another option, again will speak to them tomorrow.

Im guessing by the lack of replies im in a bit of a crap situation that folk dont really know what advice to give?

I'd say if you can't confirm your details have arrived, post them again, trackable. ALthough there will come a point where things get more expensive than the defecit... but I don't think you're there yet. Have you tried emailling them?
