Any tips on getting a cheap or even free upgrade on these airlines??

    Free? Unlikely. The only way to guarantee a 'better' seat is to pay for it

    That said, they may be more receptive if you get their names correct!

    Destinations such as Mauritius are popular with newlyweds so you're unlikely to be the only ones on the plane - they couldn't possibly treat everyone! That said, I personally wouldn't let the event go unmentioned to the crew looking after you (the airport staff will be powerless and willingless to help). If you're nice to the crew, they may be nicer back - if only with a champagne toast on the QT

    I don't know about other airlines but with British Airways you only have a chance of an upgrade if you have a frequent flyer card.
