Flying to Alexandria (Egypt)

Does anyone know of a cheap way to get to Alexandria? My son is going there on a school trip: they have arranged a flight into Alexandria airport (changing in Frankfurt) and when I heard the air fare my heart missed a beat. Four hundred and eight pounds!
In the event, the lucky tax-payer will be picking up the bill for the air tickets so it is not my problem. But if anyone knows of a more affordable way to get there, rather than using the Lufthansa scheduled service out of Heathrow, let me know and I shall try to suggest it to the school.
