My 12 son wants to get an mp3 player. I dont know very much about mp3s so could do with some advice.
My son would like an ipod as a couple of his friends have them and he reckons they are the best. I have had a look around and there seems to be alot of competition. He wants a 2 or 4mb. What is the general consensus are the ipods the bee knees or are there others out there just as good. He has £130 to spend.
Thanks

Have a look here for previous advise on the board.
I am now looking for a smaller and cheaper version as my littlun will no doubt leave it somewhere within a few months and at £130 an Ipod mini is an expencive loss.
Any thoughts on a smaller memory MP3 player for an 8 year old???

While to me, it's not ideal, the Shuffle (also by apple) is very good. It's a static based mp3 player (ie memory based, not hard drive based so no moving parts).
It's tiny too, no much bigger than a pack of gum. You can get it in two versions a 512mb version (about £60-70) and 1gb (about £100) version. That's nothing compared to the 4/6gb of the mini iPod and the 20/40/60gb of the regular iPod, but it's more than enough to put at least 100-200 tracks on, which is enough for most people.
I have an iPod myself, but wouldn't mind a Shuffle or similar based static mp3 player. They're smaller, can take more abuse, and cheaper too. The Shuffle is quite trendy too, so you don't have to worry about your kid's street cred."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Richer Sounds have the Philips KEY011 128 MB for £20 (30 to 35 MP3 tracks)
Currys/Dixons have the Philips KEY015 512MB for £60 (120 to 140 MP3 tracks)
Both very small and light, with good sound quality, LCD display and remote control.

i dont have an ipod (i bought a Ministry of sound, 20g for £100 a few months ago from lx direct?) but think that one of the good things about the ipod is that because its so popular, there's a lot of accessories and knowledge out there.
i was told by a friend that if you get one, to change the headphones as vulnerable people could be mugged as the white leads are a dead giveaway that you have an ipod....Willow: I knew it, I knew it, well not in the sense of having the slightest idea, but I knew there was something I didn't know!0
