To get the measure of raveboy, read his other posts.

His post is reflective of many on other areas of the forums. It is unfriendly and aggressive. The typical tone of the posts on OS is friendliness and support. It is a much nicer place to be.....;)

    Snap! :D

Although I will admit to having tried the stardrops and vinegar which seem to cover most cleaning jobs I need to do ;)

Thriftlady & Chameleon  - and I thought I was the only OSer who hates housework:o !

Had the intention of starting flylady - and only got as far as shining my sink! Have to admit though that the 'shiny sink thing' makes sense - and I'm still doing it. The way it makes me feel when I come into the kitchen in the morning is well worth that bit of effort before going to bed. And it's true what she says - it does catch onto the adjacent areas as well :T .

But my 6yr old DGS shamed me last week - while I was making his Narnie's Special (hot chocolate with squirty cream topping) at bedtime, he cleared off my coffee table 'hotspot' and told me to enter the living room with my eyes shut for a surprise - how embarassing is that one!
  • I have a breadmaker (but hardly use it, prefer oven-baked), don't have a slow cooker (Le Creuset casserole dish in the oven works fine for me) and I hate cleaning (wet cloth method works for me, bit of ecover spray for kitchen and bathroom shifts anything stubborn and hopefully kills any germs without harming me too much) - but I still love the Old Style forum the best even if I am still not 100% sure exactly what 'old style' means even after a few years on here - I guess it's more of an attitude and a state of mind than a specific set of 'rules' to live by - we are not all identical after all - although cooking from scratch seems to be one of the bedrocks (and good thing too!) :D

I had a slow cooker amd a steamer before I ever signed up for this forum and thought I was reasonably OS. However, since joining I have learnt so much about cleaning materials for example. Stardrops, vinegar etc etc. Always had it in the back of my mind they were good but only fully converted once on this site.

I have picked up loads of other tips and recipes so I do not think we deserve to be knocked. We are a 'family' sharing tips, good buys, recipes etc etc.

Take care you all fellow OSers!

I think the family quote is spot on ... I now always look to mse for recipes, buying advice and general chat. Life would be a lot poorer without it and I personally think it's the best thing I've seen in years, I don't feel half as wierd or tight!
  • Me too!! For what its worth I think it was just a wind up.
DP told me yesterday we are living in the 1950's its ok it was a compliment.
I think it dawned on him when he went to a dear friends for lunch, as he described it the table was spread with food - but it all came out of packets; whereas we (me) make everything from scratch.
I do understand that some people are time rich some are money rich - we are def time rich, but in another way I am so happy with this. This week I've cooked Toad in the hole, bubble and squeek, soup, baked all our bread, and made my first lot of flaky pastry. I keep coming back to this forum, I have it bookmarked I love it to bits - and thank everyone who takes part in it!!

I did! Hence no reply so far. (thinks....wonder how his managing without a kitchen post is doing - having been moved over to the Arms - where as we all know he'll probably get a warm welcome!!! - I think they cook and eat posters for dinner sometimes over in the Arms...as a poster on another Board said "I'm going to have a lurk over on another Board (ie the Arms)...theres a very strange dynamic going on there".)

Another housework hater here, in fact not much of a cooking lover either, but DH prefers to do the housework than the cooking, so I do majority of the cooking, the ironing (and any little bits he misses when he is not looking!).

I had a SC for years, to me it was a total life-saver for a working wife/mum. BM we have just acquired, but it was DH (who has nothing to do with the site or PC's) who wanted one, and now he makes the bread, and to be honest is the one who eats nearly all of it. I am still considering one for the house here. While I know I can use the oven, hate using all that electric for one casserole and with limited freezer space cannot bulk make.

As for the frugal living bit - where did that come from, it is not in the title, OS and MS does not = frugal, careful maybe, don't waste too.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?
  • Hi all, pretty new to all this, but love my new found friends (family) and all the useful info, but pleeeeeeeeeeease - what's a troll???
