Win Don McCullin’s Latest Photography Book

Signed copies of In England to coincide with Friday Night Hijack Internationally-regarded British photojournalist Donald McCullin joined us in the studio to host an evening of entertainment on Sky Arts. He also kindly donated signed copies of his latest book In England (published in November 2007) which we’re giving you the chance to win.

As part of Sky Arts' Friday Night Hijack strand, we've asked a selection of key members of the arts to take over the channel for the night and choose what they want to watch. Don chose a range of documentaries, including: Henri Cartier Bresson - The Impassioned Eye, In the Footsteps of Van Gogh, Knowledge is the Beginning and Hogarth's Progress. Tune in on Friday 1st February to catch these choices.

Don McCullin is recognized for his war photography and images of urban strife. His photojournalism career, which began in 1959, has specialized in examining the underside of society, and his photographs have depicted the unemployed, downtrodden and the impoverished. His view of England is rooted in his wartime childhood and growing up around Finsbury Park in the fifties. His first published photograph was a picture of a gang from his neighbourhood, which appeared in a newspaper after a local murder; McCullin always balanced his anger at the unacceptable face of the nation with tenderness or compassion.

In England combines some of his greatest work with an entirely new body of photographs. McCullin sees his home country with its perpetual social gulf between the affluent and the desperate in mind. He continues in the same black and white tradition as he did between foreign assignments for The Sunday Times in the sixties and seventies.

We have three signed books to giveaway. Just send us your answer to the question below to be in with a chance to win.
