Hi all,
When my home computer starts it goes through a checking phase, lots of numbers checking this then that. My laptop just goes straight into the Windows XP mode and loads up much quicker how do I disable this, my son says it can be done in the BIOS?
Would you please give me directions as this is an area (BIOS) where my knowledge is lower than a snakes belly.
Cheers,
The Major

I think you mean it's doing a Scandisk? If not then I don't really know what you mean, unless it's the memory test?
If it is scandisk then there is a good reason why it comes up and you should let it run through fully and then it wouldn't come up. You may have bad sectors on your hard disk.

Theres a option in BIOS to erm...............Quick Boot or something.....Do you mean your POST screen stops to count your RAM?0

Its in Advanced BIOS features, Quick Power On Self Test - Enabled

May be something different in your BIOS

It may be post test in the bios doing a full memory check, you only need to do this once if you have installed any memory.
You can enable quick post during bootup inside the menu of your bios. Press the del key as soon as the keyboard has initialised & num lock led lights up, find the quick post using the arrow keys, and use the Pgu, Pgd keys to change to Enabled. Find the "Save to cmos & exit" usually on the last page and let it rebbot.0 -
on mine its the F2 key not the delete key.0

Thanks to you all for taking the trouble, I think T4i & drlight are on the right track. It wasn't a scandisc but counting all the NAVRAM and such like. Live long and prosper.
