Lloyds charging for card use abroad now

Have just discovered via my statement that Lloyds TSB are now charging £1 every time you use their debit card abroad - on top of the 2.75% loading!! Did I miss out on the change to Ts and Cs? Does any other bank do this?

This is probably the final straw wrt Lloyds - I give up with them! With regards moving, does anyone know if A&L make any charge? Their Ts and Cs state: "Separate charges are made for international transactions and may also be made for other work of an exceptional nature" - but that is under the section on buffer zones on overdrafts. Any experience?

I am also planning to open the account from my parents' address in the UK - I stay with them when working in the UK but spend my days off in France; can I change the account address to French one down the line?

TIA

Yes, you missed a letter in April:

Don't Travel overseas /Shop Overseas with Lloyds TSB

'Cash withdrawals from abroad. Subject to a 1.5% (minimum £1.50) cash advance charge, in addition to a conversion fee of 2.75% of the sterling value of the transaction '

There is no such a thing like 'the best' bank. Just open an account with Nationwide for overseas spending ...

Thanks Grumbler - I was aware of the cash withdrawal fee - it was the fee for using the debit card that got me... Does any other bank charge like this??

Halifax charge £1.50 per transaction plus the 2.75% conversion fee wether using your debit card or getting out cash for overseas use.

I was also disgusted to see that i'd been charged £1 to use my debit card abroad with Lloyds TSB. As i hadn't been charged in the past, i rang the bank and the lad said he didn't know what it was. On further checking he told me that it was introduced from 20/05/05 and that the info was printed on the back of my statement. He told me that the charge had been passed down from Visa.

Apparently some other banks have also introduced the charge and i wouldn't be surprised if others follow suit.

As if the banks don't make enough from us in charging to have a bank account, they sting us again! - marvellous eh? I would change from Lloyds TSB, but there's no point cos they'll all catch on soon i'm sure.
