E-BAY Help Please

Help please
I am a seller on e bay and once a month I check for anyone who hasn't left me feedback.
Anyway I sent a gentle reminder last week to a person who purchased an item from me on the 16th December they have replied today (18/01/08) saying they haven't received it.
As I use pay pal to print my postage label I checked my account to see when I printed it, which was the same day they paid along with a couple of others. Ready to be posted the next day. The other two have received theirs. So has everyone else since. I always post first class and get a proof of posting. Personally I would have been in touch with anyone I had purchased anything from, if it took so long to arrive.
The thing is what to do now ? Do I send a replacement or do I sent them the proof of posting so that they can contact the post office, I have in the past sent a replacement, but since I only sell my items for a few pence above what I pay for them I feel as if I am giving it away.
Can some one give me any ideas.
Thank's

what proof of postage do you have?helpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
I would tell them that you will make a claim from Royal Mail and you would refund them when they confirm it has been lost in the post. Mention that RM will be contacting them about the parcel. if they still make a fuss you may have to refund or send another item.0

When an item is lost in the post, it's your responsibility to refund. You shouldn't make them wait for the claim to go through, or expect them to contact the post office (they can't anyway, you're their customer, so they'll deal with you).
Always a pain, but the only other option is to post by some traceable means.0 -
Hi
Thank you all for your responces.
The proof of postage I have is the one you automatically recieve from pay pal when you buy the postage you have to get it stamped at the post office when you post your packages.0 -
Paypal/ebay would be on the buyer's side. They will only support you if you sent the item via recorded delivery - which isn't worth it on small items. Odd the buyer didn't contact you, but I suspect you will just have to write this one off and issue a refund.

you can fill in the RM form, photocopy the proof of postage and send original with the form...DO NOT HAND OVER THE ORIGINAL TO PURCHASER
if it has been about a month, you can start proceeding straight away..tell the buyer what you are doing and that RM will contact them also, and that they will get a refund as soon as you do from RM.You are automatically covered up to £30.
Reason i know this...because i have had buyers try "oh i havent received it" on me too..funny how as soon as i say i have proof of postage and will get RM to contact you...the parcel miraculasly appears????TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0 -
POSSETTE, the buyers refund though does not depend on the sellers claim with the Royal mail. At the moment RM claims, at least the couple I have made, are taking about 2 months to come back. The buyer only has 45 days in which to start a chargeback, so will obviously start one well before the seller has any hope of a refund from RM.
By all means stall the buyer at least into week 2 and explain that you have proof of postage and that a claim will be made, but it really does pay to refund with a good heart, through gritted teeth if necessary and get the goodwill of the buyer. If you start being difficult and the buyer forces a paypal refund you still lose out and you'll probably get a neg as well. Also when feedback is left I usually add a polite apology for loss in post as a heads up to future sellers.
I personally would wait two weeks for a seller who was polite and reassured me that I would get a refund, the moment I was told that my refund depended on the RM claim I would slam in a chargeback.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
