problems with my computer?

  • Could possible try a clean up of Temp files using CCleaner, defrag, and the usual stuff like scanning for spyware/adware/viruses.

Other than that, you would probably have to re-install Windows! =(

Nothing particularly strange there. You need to check this when you get the problem and see what the cpu is doing if anything.
How many processes have you got running? Under the processes tab it states how many processes are running.

do you know how much ram you have? right click 'my computer' and select properties

55 processes well says so at the bottom and 256mb of ram

you could probably get rid of some of those but i don't think this is the main issue. Certainly do the checks and run ccleaner, at least then if we know that you have done that we can take it further.
2 checks to do when it happens are
check for extra noises from the computer that may suggest hard drive failure.
check the processes running and see what is using the cpu.

The suspicion of malware is your comment of low memory that i assume is 'virtual memory running low'

Well after a few hours last night on the computer or of it being on it started to play up again i checked the stuff asked before and this time showed cpu 100% and waol.exe 99 there was no cpu on the idle process this time. other things i tried to look at also was not happening like accessing a file and stuff in my documents.

any ideas.dont want to be putting more ram etc in it if that is the problem, its several year old now and would be buying a new one sometime this year, but its so annoying right now.

If you are using a router, you can remove all traces of AOL from your machine, it's simply not needed. See decrapifier here.

But i would not want to remove aol its my isp and what i use to go online and i have so much emails and favourites on it also,so why would i want to remove it?what does this program do?

By the way when my computer was playing up yesterday i had did a long email and not been able to save or send etc as computer would not do anything kept saying not responding, and i kept clicking and doing stuff just to get my email back up,the computer kept making noises often and i found the only way to get things working was to ctrl/alt/delete and that shut down aol,and i started back up aol and all was back to normal again, but i had lost the email i wrote etc.
This problem happens if computer is left on for ages and then i start to go online for a while or just being online a while, but when its not having the problem does work very well.

AOL may be your ISP but that does not mean that you need their software on your computer. It's their software that is rubbish, the ADSL connections is just like any other ISP. You have proved to yourself that this software is causing problems, so get rid of it.

A lot will depend on what sort of noises you are hearing, but this probably indicates a problem with the hard disk.

You can test for errors by opening a Command Prompt and typing

    chkdsk c: /f

(this assumes that your hard disk is the c: drive - it usually is) It will say that it will be checked when you reboot. Do this and watch carefully as it boots up to see if any problems are found.
