Vista capable means it'll run vista but how well depends on the laptop's specification, to run vista well you really want 2Gb ram and a dual core processor, anything less and you'd be better sticking with XP.0

even if it has loads of ram it will be slower than xp. vista is full of DRM and that slows it down.
try ubuntu, works well on my laptop

Yes im aware that it needs that spec for it to run smooth, im considering waiting for sp2 to come out, ubuntu is a possibility but id possibly run it as dual boot with XPNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
xp is to be fully supported until 2014 at the earliest so time is on your side. certainly advise that you wait until service pack for vista to see if MS can pull a rabbit out of the hat.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0

Vista is a pile of crap and im almost certain you will regret having it on,
Microsoft are due to release the successor to Vista in 2009 called "Windows 7"
XP is the way to go and stay until then.
