soon2bjobless wrote:I had a breast reduction done 9 years ago - my boobs were so big I was told the weight was pulling the top of my spine over and would end up in a wheelchair!!!
They took 5lbs away and I went down from a 46H (didnt make bigger cups in those days) to a 38c/d
I had a bad recovery - nearly lost a nipple and it took nearly 9 months to heal - and I would still go through it again if I had to!
It has made such a difference - no more back/neck ache, I can run without giving myself a black eye, no more sweat rashes or paying extortinate amounts for bras my granny wouldnt be seen dead in!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Nowadays most surgeons use dissolving stitches so there are none to take out. The worst thing for me was taking out the drains, although not all surgeons use them. There again it was only discomfort not bad pain.0

I am also considering having a breast reduction, although it's a matter of when not if.
Should i wait until after the family is complete , although i feel so miserable about them i would like to go ahead anyway. I am a 34 GG and i have all the usual problems, neck ache, pain, embarrassment, limited with sports etc.
The problem for me is that my husband works in theatres of our local hospital nhs and private, and i know alot of the staff,so will ask if i can be referred to a differing health authority, although this will be inconvenient.
I did plastic surgery nursing for 10 years so have seen the triumphs and unfortunately some disappointments (these are very few though) and i am still very keen to go ahead.
My children are 3yrs and 6 months old, how did you cope with small children, what problems did you encounter?
I am braving to see the gP next week, so wish me luck! How much ?????????!!!0 -
I would definatly wait until u've had your family. I have heard that they can grow back. And that's the last thing you want. I have been turned down recently for an op on the nhs. I'm a 32f. apparently they are cutting back. so unless I want to slit my wrists first I don't qualify. my doctor was very helpful and wrote a letter twice but the plastic surgen still says no. So I will have to save up for a couple of years.HOW MUCH ?0

It just seems so unfair - women suffer so much from over sized breasts, but cant get the help they need as readily as they need.
Its not like we want implants!!
I know i will have to go privately for me and i accept that as i do not have such a great need as other ladies.
But for people like the OP, they deserve to have it done on the NHS as it is effecting her health.:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:0 -
hi just want to ask if any of you think i would qualify for a breast reduction on NHS. I am 38...5ft 6..weight about 13.5 stones. i have back and neck problems, currently recieving physio for this. I hate my boobs they are 36 ff/g i find it hard to find nice bra's at reasonable prices, even in the bra i wear i cant have the straps too tight to keep my boobs up or i end up with shoulder and neck pain.I cant afford to go private and feel i will have to suffer the rest of my life like thisthanks for any advice / info :mad:DEBBY :j0

Big boobs are a pain I know, but I think your doctor would advise you to bring your weight down a bit before he would consider referring you. Having had a reduction a few years ago I spoke at great length when I met the consultant (went private) and he said at 5' 5" and 10 stone I wouldn't be carrying too much fat within my breasts, so I can only guess you may have a lot of hidden fatty tissue trapped there! I know its terribly hard to diet, and exercise is far more difficult with big boobs, but I'm sure you will be impressed how much weight will come off there quickly. Fingers crossed for you.0

hi just came across this article now. i had a breast reduction in 1974 when i was 18 definatley the best thing i ever did iwas huge, mine was on the nhs and i was told i would loose sensation might not be able to breast feed etc. but i went on to have 2 more children who i breastfed have not suffered any lose of sensation and they have not grown back i had aprrox 200 stiches and that was the worst thing having them taken out which was done over several days. You do of course have scarring but that fades you'd have to look close to see mine now and any way its in the crease under the breast so not that obvious. i remember going to mum's after as i could'nt lift or stretch for a while. i live in exeter and i had to go to london for my op.0

I lost loads of weight and went to a size 10 waist but boobs remained 36GG Was told that they would not go down just by losing weight I decided i looked so weird i allowed myself to put weight back on just to look a bit more in proportion. FELT ALMOST SUICIDAL IN LOTS OF PAIN AND DISCOMFORT AND EXERCISING ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE.Doctor told me no funding available on Nhs but I know that is not true as knowledge of 2 people who have just had it done. I am thinking of going abroad as it is much cheaperand I feel i CANT GO ON WITH THIS DISCOMFOrt. Check out Linda Briggs website just to see some options . It is scary but I feel that the alternative i E WHAT WE ARE GOING THROUGH IS WORSE . Good Luck Be thinking of you .0

My other half had it done last year. She had one breast bigger than the other.
Had been to doctors a few times since she was 17 years old about it, each time telling her to wait a bit longer.
Eventually had it done on the NHS aged 22. They insisted that our family wasn't going to grow in the near future (if at all) if it was going to be done (we had one daughter before the op).
She was reduced to a C cup but they have both grown to a D now.
The op was a success but she was in a lot of pain for weeks after. And couldn't really lift her arms above shoulder level.
The scarring has now faded a lot and luckily didn't lose any feeling in her nipples.Never buy a stupid dwarf -
Its not big and its not clever.0
