Breast Reduction

Options
Hi all I just wondered if anyone knew roughly what kind of size dr's class as too big for the person and will start talking about breast reduction. I have a small frame but huge breasts well huge to me. I'm 4 ft 10 and an F cup and they seem to still be growing :o . For this sort of thing is it easier to go private? If so how much roughly would it cost?. This isn't for cosmetic reasons I'm looking into this this its for health reasons. I am only intrested in advice not treatment.

Thank you for your help

My best friend had one and the NHS did it although she was on a waiting list for several months. She's about 4'11 or maybe just about 5 feet tall and probably was an F. She's now a C-ish. I recall she had to get custom made bra's before the operation. NHS did it due to health implications for her back. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.

Hi there :) I am also considering having a breast reduction (or a breast lift), but mine is for mostly cosmetic reasons as i am 5ft 2 and have an E cup, but i am quite chubby so mine dont look out of proportion but i would like mine a bit smaller.

I would say it is easier to go privately as it will be done alot sooner, BUT it costs between £3800 and £6000 and that is alot of money!!

As you say it is for health reasons, is this back pain etc? If so, this is usually ok on the Nhs, esp as you do seem to have very large breasts for being only 4ft 10. A Dr would def consider this as too big for you frame.

Research privately and get advice from your Dr to see if it can be done on the Nhs, i am prob going to have mine done by Bupa as i have had op's by them before (not cosmetic btw!!), take a look, they have lots of info https://www.bupa.co.uk

Well I plucked up the courage to go and seek advice from a gp in my surgery. I got told I wont get a reduction on the NHS. Apperntly I don't fit the criteria ie I'm not sucidal  . Also I'm borderline underweight and my BMI is in the healthy range yet I was told to loose weight . She didnt even examine them.

I wasn't best pleased with all this information and it has made me scared to go to the surgery for a second opinion or even just going to the dr's if I get ill.

Maybe I should just put up with the pain and size of them.

Go back and see another doctor. It wouldn't be the first time in our local practice that drs had different opinions.

Family member required infertility treatment that was refused by one gp but agreed to, by another. The 2 gps in question actually argued about the situation, so don't always assume they will all support each other's opinions no matter what. You may get a more sympathetic hearing from someone else....definately worth trying at the very least.

    Good luck.

I had a reduction 3 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I had to pay for mine as I didn't 'meet the criteria' either cost was around £3.5k but worth every single penny. I went from an H to a DD - no more back ache or stares in the street and my self confidence went up 300%. Go back and ask for a second opinion and if you are still knocked back try to get a consultation with a private surgeon - I didn't pay for my initial consultation, and certainly did not feel pressured to go ahead afterwards. Good luck

I buy all my underwear from them and although I have large boobs I don't suffer with any back pain (appart from the usual - but that's the job I do)

I'm with Maddy W - I had an op 4 yrs ago (was F cup, now a lovely C cup) and my confidence has grown 400%. Imagine being able to run for a bus! Imagine wearing a blouse without the buttons straining between buttons 2 and 4! Imagine going topless on the beach without your cheeks burning in embarrassment - yes girl GO FOR IT! It cost me around £3,700 then so start saving now......

I would also advise you to seek a second opinion. When you were told to loose weight, what did they say when you said that your BMI was in the healthy range, and by losing more weight you would then be unhealthy. If you want this then fight for it. If they say, no sorry, say why....when they give you the reason (ie, don't qualify), ask why

Whether you get a breast reduction on the NHS differs from area to area but your gp should refer you to either a consultant or the PCT for assessment.

Different areas have different criteria - in some you have to have a BMI of 25 or less and they wont consider you unless you lose weight. When you see your gp, preferably a woman, you should stress that you suffer from a bad back, have neck and shoulder pains, that it is painful to run and that psychologically it is affecting your life as you hate seeing yourself in the mirror and when you go out you imagine that everyone is looking at your breasts

I suggest you look at the breasthealthonline.org site. This has a UK forum and gives lots of help and advice plus there are lots of girls who have had reductions on the NHS.

I would love to celebarte them but they are just too big and when it gets to the stage where I physically have to lift them up at night time just so I can roll over or when I'm whincing in pain when I wash something has to be done about it.Hence why I'm thinking of reduction.
