Welcome to the MSE forums hank.

BT could do it for you but only if you were the senior investigating officer in a serious crime investigation.

For us plebs, it's illegal in the UK so, unless you get lucky with Google (as you might with some firms' numbers), you have little chance.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

  • thanks to both, crazy isn't it, my elderly father in law has been billed for being on the phone to a particular number for 20 hours non stop, even tho at some point he was not in the house. So he can be billed for making a call but can't be told who to. I have started a complaint with virgin media but that was 3 weeks ago,to date no reply
  • your itemised bill should be 100% correct, the details come from a government regulated switch board and as far as i know (i work in telecoms) there is no room for error. what happens when you ring the number? did he have any problems with his line around that time?

Lcf, you are absolutely right... it should be correct. But is it?

Are you telling us that there is no way that a telephone bill can possibly be wrong?

One day maybe we will get there, but we are not there yet.

VirginMedia on the xNTL side are known for often having billing issues.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
