Ryanair Credit Card ripoff?

I have recently bought several tickets with Ryanair from Spain to the UK using my Mastercard (based at a UK address). The bill from Ryanair was in Euros but I notice that on my statement they have charged me in Sterling at a very poor exchange rate!. Is this legal and is there anything I can do about it?

Yes, it states it on the first page of info about the card http://www.ryanair.com/GE/?banner=002&gemid1=002

Overseas transactions – 2.75% (including overseas Cash Transactions) As this transaction was not in the currency of where the card has been issued for this term will apply

Agree with malky, and this is the same with many cc's,

1. Did you book the tickets whilst in spain? 2. Did Ryanair carry out the currency conversion themselves, i.e. the charge has not been converted by whoever issued your card? 3. If they did, did you get offered a choice to pay in local currency?

If 1 and 2 are true, but 3 is not, then you should complain to the card issuer who will be able to dispute the charge with Ryanair as you should be offered the choice to pay in local currency. Put the complaint in writing.

Bear in mind that the £/€ rate is a bit rubbish at the minute anyway...
