USB Floppy Drive required

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 1150 online for my daughter to take to Uni but found to my horror that she is unable to save data onto a CD/DVD. I have been told that I can attach a USB Floppy Drive to my laptop which will save data onto a floppy disk. However on the Dell websie they cost £48.18 plus vat.
Can anyone advise of anywhere I can buy this cheaper? Also are they standard and could I attach any make of floppy drive to my Dell?

some form of usb memory stick might be easierAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

I agree, a memory stick would be a much better option. Much greater storage and less money. A short term option might be to open a gmail or yahoo email account and email files to herself (assuming she has internet access!)0

Last weekend my local Dixons (Kingston upon Thames) was knocking external USB floppy drives out at around £15, IIRC...0

im quite cetain when i worked at maplins they used to sell them there and for a lot less than 40£...lets have a look...
ok so not as cheap as i remember at £ 22( A02CF USB Floppy Drive)
y not get a usb pen as mentioned above i imagine that most uni machines (both southampton uni and durham certainly do) offer the use of usb devices and you can pick up a usb pen which equates to100 floppy disks in size for less than the floppy drive converter. i have listed 2 as examples from play.com which offer free delivery as well...worth a look into

Besides the memory stick option you could always go for an external CD writer which are also cheap these days. Getting a floppy drive is a false economy these days.0
