I doubt your PPI would cover you for losing your job, as they would see losing your licence as down to your own negligence.

Depending on the circumstances of you losing your licence, I would hope that the Jobcentre would be more generous, and not give you a lengthy sanction (a sanction can be for up to 26 weeks).

You would need to make a joint claim for JSA, and even if you do not receive any money straightaway, you need to keep signing in order to keep your NI records up to date.

You will not be able to claim for any help with your mortgage for 39 weeks.
    Gone ... or have I?

Perhaps you can look for work locally that you can walk to or use public transport, and that doesn't involve driving.

Got to court would be my advice, I would. My partner had 13 points and kept his licence (he did get 4 points for speeding instead of 3 but kept it, it's now clean :D thankfully was just a 'phase' of being stupid) My friend's partner had over 20 points and kept his. All because they needed their licence for work. Worth a try I'd say. My partner did get £100 extra fine, but better that than loosing his job.

Basics, when the letter arrived my partner decided to let it go to court. When in court he submitted a letter to the court explaining that he had children, needed his job to support them and regretted what he'd done etc. Some get a solicitor to do this, I just helped my partner write the letter instead of paying out for that aswell) Judge gave him 4 points and £160 fine instead of 3 points and loosing his licence.

Thankfully he's grown up a lot now and has a clean licence for a long time, he was told 'do it again and your licence goes'. I am not saying all courts do this, but I only know one person who was unsuccessful out of many who were due '12 points' because it was proven in court he could use public transport for work (one of the people who worked in the court lived near him, silly boy never thought of that)
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200

I'm about to lose my drivers licence, and therefore my job, under the topping up procedure.
My wife stays at home with our son, and we have a mortgage, what can we claim for?

Will I be able to claim unempolyment benefit, or will my loss of licence class me as making myself unemployed?

We have claimed benifits before, and my wife is from overseas, will this make a difference?

Can I claim on PPI when I lose my job, or do they look at it as if I made myself unemployed?

    A very worried Tyler.

Why you losing your licence? Not for drink driving or speeding where it can involve killing someone. You have a damn right cheek to judge anyone else and you wanna sponge of the system. Ok fair enough, if you have become disabled, but if you are able bodied get your !!!! down B&Q if you think there so great.
