Whilst the 0% for 14 months balance transfer to Barclaycard is a good deal, be aware! Barclaycard will not transfer any balances from Santander bank credit cards (mine was Abbey). Stating that because Santander is a spanish bank they have had too many communication ?? problems. Sounds a little fishy to me, have Barclaycard and Santander got any connection?

Another thing with santander, if using it with paypal is you get charged more as it is classed as international.0

Nothing fishy about it ! They have no connection, but Santanders spanish systems have caused no end of problems for Abbey bank account holders and other banks they have working relationships with. Hardly surprising Barclays don't want the hassle really. They can refuse any transfer from any bank if they wish.0 -
What Barclays are telling you is BS. I'm sure they have no problems doing transfers from MBNA, who are an American bank. It's more likely they haven't got the Abbey/Santander BIN numbers (the first 6 digits of the card number) loaded in their systems yet, so when the advisor keys in the number it isn't recognised as a valid Visa/Mastercard.0

I'm sceptical about the reasons too. A couple of months ago, some Barclaycard holders experienced difficulty transferring a balance from their Ulster Bank credit cards. The reason given then - you've guessed it - "They're Irish"

...I will thank you if youve been helpful, please do the same! :j0 -
Incidentally, I transferred a balance from Abbey/Santander to Barclaycard last month without a hitch, so you may simply have been unlucky. This happens to us all from time to time and, IMO, it's worth another try. If possible, I would phone back during normal business hours, when you're more likely to be put through to someone who knows what they're up to.
That said, things change over time and this particular problem has been posted on these boards at least three times now in the last 6 days.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
