Hi
Seems a lot of you make your own bread... was wondering what the proportion is so trying to set up a poll. Bear with me, not sure how this works!

thought I'd add in a bit... I voted "I sometimes make my own bread" - this is beacause of dh... My children and I would eat only HM bread fullstop but DH moans as it isn't the same as "shop bought bread for sandwiches" and he hates the mess with slicing a loaf  I am going to invest in a electric slicer (one I can use for meat as well) to try and get thinner slices and am intending then to batch make a few loaves, slice and then freeze what we won't use immediately...... at least the children and I will have *nice* bread all the time then!!0

On the JO prog last night I saw that in bought bread there is 1 teaspoon of salt every 3 slices. In my bread there is three quarters of a teaspoon of salt in every loaf.

Hmmm, I voted "I usually make my own bread" although I really only make bread rolls once a week for lunches but I buy a couple of loaves from Tesco for toast.0

I invested in a leccy knife from Lidl (6.99) a few weeks ago, and I have to say it has massively improved the slices of bread in that they are much thinner and better for sarnies now......so I would definately suggest going down the slicing/ knife route;)0 -
Hi there
im deffinitely a "always make my own bread" ... i find there is no "fill" to shop bread.. and my own bread is currently costing about 20p a loaf :T Oh and i would hate to see that look on my hubbies face if he didn't have "proper bread" -you know the one... where they look like a kicked puppy :rotfl:
i now make mine by hand and the BM is in the basement, as i only used it on "dough" as i like it baked in the oven.... i find it quicker by hand too-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I think also a lot of people are put off when they think of breadmaking as it brings to mind memories of spending hours in the kitchen, kneading dough then waiting for it to rise etc. But today with electric breadmakers so readily available its easy to spend a couple of minutes weighing out the ingredients and forgetting about it - that is until you wake up to the smell of fresh bread!
My family love homemade bread but they used to complain if it wasnt ready in time for them so now I just make up a couple of loaves and slice them before freezing so we always have a back up.
There's no comparison between homemade and shop bought. Especially with homemade breadcakes (balms to you southerners?) made half and half with freshly milled wholegrain and white bread, with some seeds thrown in. Oooh i'm starving at the thought!0 -

heh. you're not the only one who's OH looks like that... i got informed this morning by OH: "you need to make bread". and he toddled off happy that it would get made. He seriously sulks if i'm not well enough to make it. Enough that he's learned to make it himself, although i still have to weigh the ingredients out for him (he doesn't like my scales).

We tend to have HM bread mainly but DH and DS take bought bread in their pack ups for work.
Having said that, I think we're gradually changing over to all HM as I'm getting more organised and they've been taking HM bread rolls more and more.
Hate shop bought bread with the exception of Warbartons Seedy batch, for which I'm trying to recreate in my MR's.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

I have gone for 'sometimes' as DD age 9 doesn't like homemade bread and she's the only one who has a packed lunch!! Very tricky! I'm liking the idea of an electric knife if it cuts more thinnly as I can use it in thetoaster and she prob wouldn't know!! ALso didn't realise how much salt there is in shop bought!0
