Good luck with it I promise that you will love it. :D I did bar work recently for the first time ever aged 24 and although I complained about it to anybody on MSE who would listen to me because I was just not a natural for the job and I have always found making random and cheery conversation with complete strangers really quite painful I ended up loving my job and only left it because I was moving out of the area and not because I did not like it. :D

hon bar work is fab fun, view it as social rather than a job and you will really enjoy it. I'd lvoe to go back and do soe again, i loved it and had such a bloomin good laugh itwas great.
let us know how you get on. xx
debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!
    :heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:
  • Go for it!
You get used to it so quick and it ends up being a load of fun. I worked in a bar for about 18 months when I was a student (had to find some money from somewhere!) and I much preferred it to the job I do at the moment just because of the social side.

    Good luck! :D

What have you got to lose? Try it and if you don't like it at least you gave it a go. You will be nervous at first, that's to be expected. I worked in a bar years ago and the regulars were surprisingly helpful! It won't take long to get your confidence up and if you like pubs generally then you will get paid to enjoy yourself :D

I never liked bar work lol One nightclub (never again worked student night & moved to cloak room supervisor), one pub (local, not to me but 'a local') and one city bar.
I'm sure it can be once once you get into it.

That's why I said if you like pubs generally lol. I don't unfortunately. I liked the nightclub one partly because it meant all my friends got in for free but I was young then :D The pub job where the regulars genuinely were helpful, I didn't like so didn't stay long. Even though I am still job-hunting I won't apply for a bar job because I have tried it and so know I won't like it. But if you've never tried, it's surely got to be worth a try, go on, give them a call tonight.

Good luck with it always amazed, its amazing how much we all procrastinate over new things even if its in our interest, i'm a serial procrastinator. Still, live is for living and if you have nothing to loose and a great opportunity to experience what can be great and fun work whilst recieving an income, what you got to loose?!

All the best and hope it goes well.

  • hey;
thanks for all your replies; that made a huge difference to my confidence, I hadn't realised I might actually enjoy it!

    Anyway, an update...

..still being 'kept in mind' for nights when the bar is low on staff, but even better, am doing a 'second job' at my work! You might know already, I work in a community centre in management (not the cafe thankfully!) and can do the odd shift at min, wage in the cafe if I'm needed.
It works so well because I know the place and, more importantly to me, I know I'm not working to keep the landlord in Land Cruisers and holidays to Hawaii. :):):)
Did first extra shift yesterday and earned an extra £27 plus £6.60 tips :)

There's only sunshine that lies ahead. You have to move forward because it doesn't make sense to live in the past.

  • I do; and it was so easy to do. That's £27 I wouldn't have had and can't decide what to do with it. A ho hum hum.
