Bournemouth - Cheap Hotel?

I am planning to take the OH to bournemouth for the weekend around Valentines - can anyone recommend a nice hotel that is cheap and in a good location?

Also any tips of things to do would be appreciated, places to go, events that are on!?

Can't give you specific help on hotels as I'm originally from B'm'th, so I don't need such things when I visit ;).
You're best off going through the site above as there are 100s of hotels, then go direct to the hotels of your choice for info. Don't choose a hotel in the centre of town if you're not a clubber or don't want a lot of noise from late-night revellers. The entertainment events change all the time and if the weather's nice, a stroll along the miles of easily-accessed beaches is recommended. I'm not sure of the tourist season start date, but during that time there is usually a big fireworks display at the main pier every Friday evening.
There are a lot of surrounding areas to explore too: New Forest (with little towns), Poole, Studland.....

free with airmiles - had collected enough tesco and shell points . cant remember off hand at mo the name of the hotel. the rooms were grubby at the back end of the hotel but the sea facing ones were great and its sister hotel had a small pool . think we stayed in the 3 star hotel and i think the other sister one was 4 star which overall looked of course better. we mainly did walks to and from the pier - would not recommend cafe on the pier . it was jsut the easiest place for us to eat at the time.

if you look for hotels on the East and West cliffs there are various ones of all sorts of standards to suit various budgets. They are pretty much all within walking distance of town centre but also out of earshot of the noise. Failing that could always consider ones in Christchurch or there is a Holiday Inn or Best Western on Poole Quay if you're not overly in the area for a late night and somewhere a bit quieter but still with restaurants and the like

I stayed at a Best Western (I think it was) on the outskirts of Bournemouth when I went to the Unison conference in 2006. It was a short walk into town for the Conference itself. I can remember that the hotel was a wierd shade of blue but the rooms were comfortable and clean and there was parking outside. I seem to recall that it was a reasonable price.

Normally, when I go on holiday down that neck of the woods I go camping so can't really comment on the hotels around Bournemouth.

Probably the best place to stay is the Premier Inn, overlooking the bay at Poole - you then have the best of both worlds close to Bournemouth and you have the shops in Poole too.
