Parcel never delivered - advice on what to do next needed

Options
Hi

My mother in law ordered a NintendoDS Lite from this company http://www.bestpricedbrands.co.uk/index.php? on 11 December 2007 which hasn't been delivered. The money was taken out of her account 14 December 2007. There is no phone number on the website only an email address which I've emailed but with no response.

How can I find out what's happened to the parcel? who can I contact? What's my next step?

Thank You

Since the claim to use UPS (for faster deliveries!) I would try contacting them. I don't suppose you got a tracking number for your parcel?

I have just done a quick google on them and it appears that they're a scam site that don't deliver. I hope you paid by credit card or paypal (if available).

    Hi, thanks for your reply.

My heart's just sank. No, unfortunately she paid with a debit card. I looked on the UPS website but I have no tracking number just an order number and there wasn't an 'email us' option for the UK just a phone number  I haven't got enough credit on my phone to phone them at the minute.

Is there any way of trying to get this money back? anyone I can complain to? The police? Or is it a lost cause? I'm gutted for her!

I think she can ask her card company to make a visa recall, can't remember the exact term, but it was mentioned a lot in the case of the hamper company that went bust the year before last.

Ok, I credited my phone and gave UPS a quick ring, there's nothing they can do seeing as there wasn't a tracking number given.

I've already told her to go to the bank, looks like it's the only and last course of action.

    Thanks for your help :)

If you do a google and read through the discussions about this company then you might get some info about what other people are doing. You could also get on to Trading Standards.

Before buying stuff online, please ALWAYS:

    1) google the company name, possibly followed by the word "review" and see what other people have to say about them.

    2) check if they have a contact address (that's genuine) and phone number (that works)

    3) If an offer looks to cheap to be true, then it probably is.

Perhaps email them from a different address, and pretend to be a new buyer wanting to talk to someone about something (make up a story!!) and ask for a telephone number so they can talk to someone. Imply you're going to spend ALOT of money... it might be worth a try!

You might wanna read through these:

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

as mentioned on watchdog earlier this week people who pay for items over the internet with their debit card may get SOME of their money back.

as has been mentioned if the oeffer is too good to be true then it is and always do some research - it only takes 5 minutes the amount of same time that it takes to input your details ona site which may later to be turn out to be a scam site

If you paid with a VISA debit card thern VISA do operate a chargeback.

If you exhausted trying to contact the seller then contact VISA.

If your debit card is not VISA then you are probably out of luck.
  • I'd also call consumer direct (details here - http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/ )who can log it and pass it onto the Office of Fair Trading. I'm guessing only they can investigate and potentially close down this website and help pursue things on your behalf.

I've had to call them today about another company who's failed to deliver goods - they answer the phones quickly and are really helpful with advice on your options.

    Good luck.

I doubt it'll come under their juristiction unless they force nominet to take away the domain name as the registrant of the domain is:
800 West El Camino Real Suite 180
    Mountain View
    CA
    94040
    US

It appears the hosting of the site is in the US as well.
