my husbands old school friend is getting married tomorrow, and we have been invited to the reception, they have said that there isn't a gift list as they are already livibg together, but if people would like to give they would like cash for their honeymoon. Now please don't slate them, this is not a problem at all, i would just like to know how much people would give? is £25 ok, or is that too little for a wedding? ahhhhh i like gift lists!!

I think that as an evening guest that is totally acceptable. Remember, its about what you can afford and want to give. I am sure they will be very grateful for your gift x
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this responser.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!

If you're going to the sit down meal, then I guess a £25 gift would be fine, perhaps a bit more. If you're just going to a disco, then perhaps less.
Or a donation to charity on their behalf?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
My neice and new hubby asked for cash at their wedding and we happily gave them £50 it was great not having to shop for something actually.. So a I would defo say for a friend £25 is perfectly acceptable... have a nice time , I hope the rain holds off....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I gave a cheque for £50 to some friends who got married, and they tried to return it saying it was too much!0

Give what you can afford to give. There is no magic figure. If the host had any sense the gifts would be anonymus anyway so as not to put guests under any pressure.
A recent wedding I went to, there was a wishing well in the room. Guests could put in what they wanted anon.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
I think £25 is fine - remember it's what you can afford, but if they receive £25 from each couple going they'll have a tidy sum at the end of the evening.Murphy's No More Pies Club Member No. 680

Sorry, just thanked you by accident as I went to reply.
It really should be what you can afford and happy to pay.
We give varying amounts depending on who the person is. I would put it in the card with a little note saying have a drink on us on your honeymoon. It would buy a nice bottle of champagne, so that would be equivalent to a lovely physical present.
Have a lovely time.0 -
When we got married my parents gave us a cheque for £400 but they could afford to do things like that, £25 is plenty if you can afford it.Winnings
