in Credit cards
D'oh...
Applied for a Halifax One credit card over the phone and received an acceptance letter this morning. However on closer inspection I saw that whoever had taken my details had got my date of birth slightly wrong.
I thought I should phone up and correct it (thinking that if they couldn't match my details to my credit file correctly, it might impinge on the credit limit they could give me). I couldn't have been more wrong!
The bloke on the phone actually told me (after I had told him to change the date of birth) that he had done another credit check (bit annoyed about that cos I didn't want two checks for one card!) and that this time I had failed and that they were withdrawing their acceptance!!!
I was a little flabagasted at how I could pass with a false date of birth and fail with a correct one. He said that because they couldn't match up the right credit history with my wrong DOB, they had passed me based on my other "demographics" on the form (I assume age and salary?). Once they had a look at my credit history, they knew enough to fail me! - I assume because of too many checks lately - will have to take a stoozing break for a while :-(
Anyway, thought I would post this story for information purposes. It may be a good tactic for those who want to make more applications to "accidently" add a month to their DOB ;-)

If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...

I would suggest writing to them to ask for removal of the original search as there was an error in a vital piece of info.0

I would write and complain, threatening to go to the press if they dont honour their original offer, so that everyone can make their own judgement on their levels of professionalism
You could also include a line about how their actions encourage people to be less than honest in completing applications. :wave:God save the King!
I'll save Winston Churchill, Jane Austen, J. M. W. Turner and Alan Turing.0
