Water running down my walls!!!

Under my window sill in the dining room water has appeared. At first I thought it was damp but it has only come in the past 2 weeks. So I thought maybe all this heavy rain.
I took off the paper on the patch and there are two small cracks where the water mark comes from. My OH went outside as it's an exterior wall and resealed around window, unblocked gutter etc and in past two days it had dried out so problem solved...NOT!
Today it has come back in the past hour. Yes its raining again but has been in past two days anyway. Only other thing is I put on the washing machine which hasn't been on since wednesday night. Could this be it?
Washer is in the kitchen though and wall is in an L shape away from the wet area. Is it probable that water travelling along somewhere inside wall and escaping where cracks are?
Oh and I move house in a week so dont want expense of builders but do want to patch up wall well so no more water until at least a while after we move out!!!

I can't help with where it might be coming from - only a builder is likely to be able to do that and even then it might only be a guess. We had a similar problem years ago and never worked out where it was coming from. Water can come from the most complicated routes along the smallest of cracks.
I can't see how it might be the washing machine, but if it is, then don't use the machine again before you move - problem solved.
I don't envy you the problem though. I'd be torn between the morals of doing the right thing for the buyer and wanting to get away without anyone noticing.
Presumably you have exchanged contracts and complete next week? I'm not sure of the legal position and if you have to inform the buyer. I doubt it, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon.0 -
We had this type of problem and it was the double glazed windows that we had fitted a few years back - no drain plug had been fitted to the window frame
you should either fix it or infrom any prospective buyers0 -
Ideally I would like to find the cause and fix it before I leave but they have had a survey to check for problems and did knock us down £3000 as it is, and messed us around over the past 5 months since they offered!!
Have switched off machine and if walls dry again I will switch it on to see but it just seems too far away from the problem.
I have a Warmfront service man around today to service central heating so might flutter eyelashes and see if he can offer any free advice.
Our windows were fitted about 5 years ago so it again would be odd for them to be the problem surely?Looking for the sunshine after the rain

Neither would I. If they had a full survey then they ought to be able to have some comeback on the surveyor if he missed anything, though, in reality, they might have their work cut out to prove anything. Good on you for considering the buyer in this, but I don't think that it is your problem anymore.0 -
ignore it and move on0
