Oxenholme to Crediton ...this weekend...

Options
Hopefully I'm asking this in the right place.
I want to travel from Oxenholme Lake District to Crediton (near Exeter) this coming saturday 19th Jan. and come back on Tuesday 22nd Jan.
I've been scowering the info from MSE, and trying all possible combinations I can think of. I've ended up cabaging my head, so though I would ask some of you kind people here if you have any suggestions.

The best price I can find is £126 (!!!)
I know this is a long journey, but there has to be a cheaper way?

I am flexible as to when exactly to set off on saturday 19th, but preferrably sometime AM.
I am also quite flexible on the return journey, again AM would be preferrable.
I am also happy to take virtually any route down and back up.
I don't qualify for any type of railcard =(

I am gonna go get a cuppa & keep trying to whittle the price down, but any leads I can gain will be invaluble!

Any ideas?

It is still possible to do the return journey from OXN to CDI for £92.90. This uses a Value Advance Single each way - out = £46.50, rtn = £46.40.

By splitting at Birmingham New Street and at Exeter St Davids the price can be reduced to £88.30. -
OXN - BHM £40.00 return using Value Advance Singles
BHM - EXD £42.50 return using Value Advance Singles
EXD - CDI £5.80 return using Cheap Day Singles

All the above 'Value' tickets are only available on some trains. You need to work out if they are suitable for you.

Other splits are be possible which may produce a cheaper fare.

But time is against you. You MUST buy these tickets (except the Cheap Day Singles) in advace - by 6pm today (Fri) for the outward journey (I think its 6pm but check).

    Wow! fantastic!
That is a sizeable saving, many many thanks for looking into it for me.

I would like to ask how you came accross the Value Advance fares?
I have been looking on the virgin website and trainline.com and could only find a value advance fare on the way down. Not, strangely, for the way back.

Anyways, I am off to buy me some tickets.

I cannot thank you enough, you have just made someone very happy indeed =)

I always use National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner for this type of query.
If you follow the 'look for cheapest tickets' (or something like that) button, you will find them if they are available.
