Do dentists and orthodontists ever use people for training where someone who is learning does the treatment while being overlooked by a fully trained orthodontist/dentist. Not sure if this is a silly question but I'm sure Toothsmith could answer for me.
There are places available (unusaully in the dental hospitals scattered around the country), that provide that service, but to get on thier lists you have to have a refferal from you current dentist, very good oral hygiene, generaly dentally fit (no major fillings or situations where you might loose a tooth) and most importantly of all a malocclusion (bite and look) which is severe enough.
The orthodontist wont whiten your teeth though. If the teeth don't whiten after a polish, then either bleaching/crowns/veneers might be needed.:money: Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou to everyone who has helped.0 -
I had a brace in my teens to straighten my top teeth and correct an overbite. Roll on 15 years and my overbite was back.
I too was getting married at 29 and hated my teeth and had the photographer all geared up to photograph me from the other side.
I mentioned it to my NHS dentist and she took a look and said "your overbite could potentially give you sores on your bottom lip" and refered me to an orthodontist. I was seen within 3 months (same orthodondist I had all those years ago) and was fitted with my brace. It took 9 months to straighen them out and 10 years on they are still perfect. I think my treatment cost just over £300. HE took NHS patients. I don't know if there are any NHS orthodontists out there still.
It is the best thing I ever did, it has given my self esteem such a boost and I no longer shy away from the camera.:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
Most orthodontists are mainly NHS, as they usually deal with kids.
Adults CAN qualify for NHS orthodontics, but things have to be pretty far out - like large, potentially traumatic overbites. It's pretty rare though. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
