there are lots of different payment options. To pay it up at the dentist was going to be at least £100 a month and it would cost £120 more. I figured i couldn't afford £100 a month so i took out a bank loan over 3 years and pay just £70 a month. Yeah, you pay interest but that £30 each month goes to another bill so it works for me. I'll be paying for my brace long after they've come off but at least i'll see the results!
6 days to go til they're off!! I'm actually quite anxious about it incase i'm not happy but my mate got hers off last month and said she felt exactly the same, once they were off she was over the moon. Looking into getting them whitened too.0 -
Some dentists offer a 0% finance deal.
Products like Denplan 'Enhance' and similar. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I got my photographer (brother) to "photoshop" my wedding pictures and whiten my teeth in the ones we wanted enlarged. Looked much better - and no harsh chemicals involvedworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0

Emilyt - I am doing great with my brace, its been on over a year now and I am loving the results its giving me. 1-2 years still to go although I really hope it won't be as long as that.
I am having micro screws fitted on the 4th Feb to move my back botton teeth forward, looking forward to it! I had a gap where my lateral insisor and baby canine were removed, my canine was stuck in the roof of my mouth but that is in the right place now and has replaced the lateral incisor and been reshaped to look like the one on the other side (my first pre-molar has become my new canine) I still have to have my front teeth reshaped and all the gaps closed but its going really well, if I had it taken off now I would be happy!

Well done to you for not giving up on the treatment. :T I know several times my DD has ben in a lot of pain but has been determined to keep her braces on.:T My DD had a tooth that was in the roof of her mouth she had to have 5 teeth taken out at the hospital and have stitches. . We are just waiting for the gap in her front teeth to close up. Apparently they are the last teeth to move together. I am so glad they did a before photo so we can see just how much better her teeth look.:D It will all be worth it in the end. Can't believe you have had your brace on a year already. You will have to post before and after pics for us to see. :j Good luck and don't give up. You will end up with the most perfect smile. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile0 -
I can't recommend braces enough :j I had mine on for a year and half and now have retainers and the difference it's made to my smile and confidence is fantastic
I really wish I'd done it sooner but better late than never. And I only got it done int he end as I was in pain as my teeth we digging into my lip. It is a lot of money though. If it's putting you off getting married then the cheaper option is to have your photos photo-shopped as newly wed suggests.
The main thing to remember though is that very few people will notice them as much as you do! Whilst all my friends say my teeth look much better now most of them didn't notice when I had my brace on or off as people just don't look in that much detail at your mouth. Take a big long look in the mirror and focus on all the things you like about yourself and work out how to draw attention to them and then you won't care so much about your teeth0 -
hi thanks for your help,as we get a tax credit top up to go with my OH wages and have just started a DMP we really cannot afford at the moment,I have been looking for a part time job but as I don't drive finding something to fit in with the school run and coming home to let the dogs out is proving a little hard at the moment, thanks for the photoshop idea but its not just the pics its stading there in front of everyone and as I only plan to do it once I want to look my very, very best, its also a confidence thing as I feel very aware and think it ruins me. Do dentists and orthodontists ever use people for training where someone who is learning does the treatment while being overlooked by a fully trained orthodontist/dentist. Not sure if this is a silly question but I'm sure Toothsmith could answer for me.LBM-29/08/07

I too had a brace fitted as a child but because it involved having to wear a head brace for many, many hours a day (my orthodontist wanted me to wear it for so many hours, I would have had to put it on on the school bus on the way home!). So my teeth never got really straightened out.
Do they still use the head brace thing to push the back teeth back and then the other brace during the day for the front ones? I don't think I could go back to that hideous head brace thing again.0 -
I FEEL THE SAME WAY TOO. ITS SO DEPRESSING. WE ARE BOTH IN THE SAME BOAT!perfectlypoor wrote: »hi I really can't stand my teeth and its starting to really effect how I feel about myself. I was fitted with a brace as a teenager but because it was sore and I was young and stupid I didn't wear it and they gave up on me. My bottom teeth are pretty straight but the top front ones are not and stick out they are also yellow I long for whiter straighter teeth but at the moment can't find an nhs dentist in my area my partner wants us to get married but I won't because of the wedding photos and I don't want everyone to think how my teeth ruin my appearance I won't get my photo taken full stop, money is tight as we have just started a DMP. Is there anything cost effective I can do to help myself?0

awww bless you hun,
this is more of self esteem and self worth. your fella wants to marry you because he loves you. if he was worried about your teeth (a he would be shallow) and (b he wouldn't asked to marry you)
take a step back and start with small steps...
how about teeth whitening tooth paste (not the expensive home bleach stuff)
so your teeth aren't straight, neither are mine, or my OH, millions of people have crooked teeth, doesn't stop them doing what they want to do.
Find out if you have a dental hospital nearby and write to them and tell them you want to self referral, and explain your reasons.Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0
