Generic cartridges/printer compatability.

My other thread seems to have been sabotaged, so i'll try a different angle........

My question relates specifically to the Epson DX4450.
I read on one website that in order for any generic cartridges to work in this printer i need to change ALL of the print cartridges (of which there are 4).

Does anyone know if this is true?
Basically i only need to replace my black ink cartridge as the colour ones are all still full, BUT of course if the generic blacks won't work in my printer unless i change all 4, then this kind of defeats the point in buying cheap black ink cartridges right?

If the printer was made after March 2007 then most of the cheap cartridges won't wok at all, and the ones that will you have to change the full set the first time you use the compatable cartriges, after that you can just change the black on its own.
On the site ormus linked to you can get 4 original Epson black cartridges for £23 which is good deal for original cartriges and would be a lot easier than trying to get compatables to work, plus you'd know they're going to be high quality, not all the cheap cartriges are the same quality.

Well it seems all the websites (and even shops) are saying that they got around that "chip problem" a while ago.
You can get Epson on the high street anyway, but the word on the street is that Epson slyly fix the chips in the cartridges that means they don't even run dry before the printer tells you they need replacing.

Epson lost a class action law case in US last year for telling people to throw away ink.
