Decking Stain - What Alternative Is there?

Hi All!
So, I've been tidying up the garden, after the builders have almost finished making a mess & we've inherited the base of an old shed.
& I've raised it, built a wall around it & am puting slabs next to it, to make a patio area. The wood is planed slats, but obviously not the proper 'decking timber' so what do you reckon I should treat it with, to get a rich red colour?
All the true decking products are expensive & other treatments say for rough sawn timber, only.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
VB

Found a can of Wickes discontinued oak colour - £19.99 down to £4.79 !!
I'm happy!!

what actually happens if you use the rough timber stain?0

I think it doesn't 'stick' to the wood too well & won't have same sort of wear characteristics, as the proper stuff.
But you could afford to re-treat a few times, 'cos it's about 1/4 the price!!

i've already used proper decking stain and got a big tub of shed stain left over from the shed. Been thinking about trying it on the decking as i prefer the colour, might just give it a bash0
