HC1 form ~ confused ~

Hi,

I received my HC1 form today and I am completely baffled as although I only earn £110 a week they say I should pay...

£18.93 towards sight tests
£37.86 towards glasses/contacts
£18.93 care under a consultant
£56.79 for dental treatment and wigs

This seems an awful lot to pay towards, there's no help towards prescriptions which is gutting as I'm on AD's and these are going to cost a futune now which I really cant afford.

I am pretty desperate for an eye test and cant afford £20 for it, any suggestions?

Thanks for any advice,

Jen

With prescriptions, can you not get an annual prepay certificate?

I know there is an up-front charge, but it saves you the charge each time.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Are you reading the form right as the amounts you are stating are roughly what the DWP will pay towards the stated items, certainly those relating to the eye test & glasses at least.

If you are on a very low income then you should qualify for help with prescriptions.

If you contact somebody at your local Jobcentre Plus I'm sure they will be able to confirm your entitlement.

Here is some info on qualifying entitlements.

The extent of any help available is based on a comparison between a person's weekly income and their assessed requirements at the time the claim is made (or the date the charge was paid if a refund is claimed). Any help a person is entitled to is extended to their partner and dependent children, if applicable. Anyone can make a claim, providing they do not have capital which exceeds the capital limit. The capital limits are as follows:
If you are resident in England or Scotland:

[*]£21,500 for those permanently in a care home
[*]£16,000 for everyone else If you are resident in Wales:
      • £22,000 for those permanently in a care home
      • £17,250 for everyone else
LIS assessments are broadly based on Income Support arrangements to determine how much, if anything, a person should contribute towards their health costs. However, the Scheme also allows for the inclusion of council tax and housing costs in the assessment.
People are entitled to full help with NHS charges (which includes free NHS prescriptions), and are sent an HC2 certificate, if their income is less than or equal to their requirements or their income is greater than their requirements by no more than half the current English prescription charge. People are entitled to limited help with certain NHS charges, and are sent an HC3 certificate which shows how much they are expected to contribute to their health costs, if their income is greater than their requirements by more than half the current English prescription charge. Certificates are usually valid for periods of between 6 months to 5 years, depending on a person's circumstances. The Scheme is designed so that people can claim help in advance of incurring a cost and are able to budget accordingly. However, if charges have already been incurred, refund claims and claims for certificates may be made at the same time.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Could someone please tell me whether it is right that I should pay for my dental treatment when I go and then claim back the money I have paid for treatment (when I already have a HC2 form, which entitles me to free prescriptions and free dental treatment)?

I'm really annoyed that I am supposedly expected to claim this back myself, surely I can reclaim my costs online? There must be an email address! I know that it is possible to ring a number or send a letter, but this is the 21st century and we're all living in it. So who can I email?! The problem with ringing them or sending them a letter is that I still have to fork out good money to claim something I am entitled to in the first place (completely against the primary purpose of the HC2 form in the first place).

this form aint worth the paper it is written on!! you will get a few pence off your sight test and the amount to towards glasses is actually more than the A voucher for help so you will get nothing. it makes me mad that they actually send out people these forms and dont tell people they dont qualify! the forms dont explain themseleves well and make people think that will be intitled to consessions:mad:

can the hospital not make your plate for you? that way you'll only have to pay the maximum fee once (which is £194)
    • The hospital stated that they wouldnt do the plate and that i must have to go back to my dentist to get the plate done.
