travelex exchange trauma

I exchanged around £400 into czech crowns with Travelex at the airport just after christmas. I didn't know the exact exchange rate, but Travelex has all those signs about 'best exchange guaranteed', right?

But when I checked the rate later, it looks like not such a good deal... in fact, it cost me around £ 35 more than it should have done! Ouch!

(should be around 33 crowns to the pound.. but I got less than 30!)

Apart from making a note not to use them again.... I guess nothing I can do at this stage?

    Nope.
In future, you can reserve them online at a much better rate, then collect them at Travelex.
You won't get the best rate by just turning up.

You can also get a better rate at www.thomasexchangeglobal.co.uk and then buy your currency from travelex online (which is where you get the "best rate guarentee"). They will then price match thomas's rate and send you a cheque for the difference.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Exchanging currency at the airport is NEVER a good deal, they always charge a premium there, by way of adjusting the rates in their favour. Like other posters have said the Best Rate Gurantee usually applies to their website. If you did see it in the airport (not sure if they display the signs there) it was probably reffering to within the airport, which may well have been true.

What rate are you checking with? If you go to a site like https://www.xe.com it will give an exchange rate but you will never get as good as this figure. Companies buy and sell either side of this rate to make their money. Possibly you did not get as bad a deal as you think.

Less than 30 is awful...I got 34.5 at Xmas, down to 33 last week which is just about the lowest it's ever been.
    Last October it was 39-40.
