i have two children under 5 all day (I am allowed three - but it can be a triangle!!) - then many before & after school children.

You will make more money by having "full-time" children - sounds obvious - but if you have one child for 4 hours a day only, you may be unable to fill the space for the remainder of the day. I have two full-timers, so 1 child x 40 hours per week and 1 x 33 hours per week. When i first started, I had 2 x 12 hours. So I now make around £150 week more for those two spaces than I did when I started.

Webbie looks like u have it sussed.

Yea think i'd try to get full timers. This is why i was looking into covering shiftworkers. If i could get a sibling pair and cover earlies/lates/nights plus chaarge more for unsociable hours it may work quite well...

    Hi

My 11 mobth old is with a minder from 7am til 5pm four days a week. We pay 6.00 for first hr then 3.50 per hr for rest of day. We provide all nappies, milk and food.

Our lady also has kids dropped off for school run as local school's bus collects outside her house!

I've childminded for 6 years now. I started off doing pre-schoolers, but gave that up about 18 months ago when I 'lost' two siblings when they moved out of the area. Unfortunately, there were not very many children coming through at the time. I am still registered and care for various amounts before and after school (my own children are now 6&9). As one of the above posters has said, sometimes my kid have loved having others around, sometimes they don't like having to share everything. We do keep some of their toys upstairs out of the way of the childminded kids if my two don;t want to share them.
If you are doing unsociable hours, then I think you should charge more.
I also get paid weekly in advance; sometimes there has been slight delay and because you become friends with the parents, it can cause problems. However, I have been very lucky in knowing that they would come up with the money soon.
    Hope that helps.
