Is this rude?

I currently live with my boyfriend in his house, but I have a house of my own about 3 miles away. For complicated reasons that I don't want to go into here, I'd like to sell my house and buy one very close (same or next road) to my boyfriend's house and live there. There's no rush for this, it's something I'd like to do in the next 2-3 years.
There is one house in particular that would be perfect as my boyfriend's teeny-tiny garden backs onto the much larger garden of this house, which would make going between the houses very easy and also give us access to the lane so his kids' bikes wouldn't have to be stored indoors (his garden is 'landlocked' by neighbours' gardens).
Anyway, as I'm not in a rush to move, I'm considering droping a note round to the owner of the house I'm interested in, asking her to keep me in mind if she choses to sell. However, there's one thing that makes me reluctant to do this - the owner is quite elderly and physically frail. I don't want to give the impression that I'm trying to take advantage of her, or imply that she'll be going into a nursing home, or worse, anytime soon.
Would it be rude to write her a letter?

It's not rude at all. If you explain your reasons to her - I'm sure she'll understand. Besides, if she's as old and frail as you say then her garden may be too much for her and for all you know she may well be thinking of downsizing! The worst she can do is say no. Good luck.Getting older is inevitable, growing up is optional :rotfl:0

So you've got a blokey/family or he's got a wifey/family?

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -
Why dont you both sell up, pool your resources and buy a house together?0

If she, or her family, know that you really, really, really, want the house they will know that you are willing to pay lots of money if they want to sell.
So it might be better just to wait and see if it comes onto the market.
On the other hand, it might not be.

No, neither of us is married. We've been together for 8 years, lived together for about 2 years. At some point in the future I'd like to adopt, that's why I'd want to move out.0 -

Why do people who don't tell all the ins and outs on this site have to be cheating?:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
My mother's GP has recently told her that she would be interested in buying her house when she no longer has need of it. My mum is delighted that she has found a posthumous buyer for her house, rather than finding it morbid, she is really happy to have got this bit of personal admin out of the way.0

I don't think you should write a letter, I think you should call over.0

Write the letter and hand deliver it and briefly explain what it is about - the whole garden shebang. In this way she can see you and put a face to the letter. If I got a letter like that from a stranger out of the blue I definitely wouldn't respond, particularly if I was old.0
