    thanks all for you replies..

I have no outstanding debts and NEVER been in trouble with any utilities for non payment of bills, which i why i am querying these tarrifs in the first place .

@ Cardew : MY savings ARE in perspective...why do you think i am looking at changing? the low costs my brother in law is achieving is a result of switching to an alternate company and saving money. If it was not possible, then his bills would be higher? But as i said it IS possible as he showed me his new bills and he was pleased he made the cganges. Not that i'm expecting to pay what he is because we will consume different amounts, but he is of similar circumstances and lives less than 1 mile down the road from me. I don't expect to half my bill, but certainly do expect to make a fair saving. Sorry if i don't agree with your post..but i've seen the results for myself. What can't speak cannot lie !

    This is what you stated:
I was hoping to avoid this method and simply go straight to a crdit metre.... another family member in the same circumstances has just paid his recent bill for both at £130 for a quarter...hence you can understand my frsutration and paying more than two times the amount.

So what is the point of stating the other family member in the same circumstances having a bill of £130 a quarter, and comparing it with your quarterly bill of £300?(i.e. more than 2 times the amount)

Obviously pre-pay is more expensive than a credit meter - that is the whole point of the thread. However you made the comparisons of £130 to £300 and if you now concede that you don't expect to half your bill, I wonder why you raised the comparisons.

No your right, i don't expect to half the bill, naturally i'm not going to consume the exact same amount as my family member, but i do expect to make a hefty saving as he has.

When it alk of similairt circumstances, i mean by a 3 bed house with a wife and 2 children, although my children are older...tbh i think you understand the point fully.

Its so hard to make comparisons with what other people are paying, there are so many variables that mean just because your brother/father/friend/aunty/etc who lives in the same size house the other side of town is saving £xx it doesnt mean you can too.

There are too many things to take into consideration like insulation, boiler age/efficiency, even the usage can vary wildly from one 2.4 family to the other.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Yes i fully agree....on a whole i do believe i can make some savings, although someone did post that with what i am paying i might not be considered a low user, but hte reutrn to a credit meter should definately see some difference.

Thanks all for your advice, i'll await the finish of the price wars and see if i can make a switch, IF i do get to save money, i'll post some results on the difference

I would use a comparison site, but beware that some companies charge to take a PPM out and install a Credit meter, I know for a fact EDF Energy do not charge,

    Good Luck
