Hi
Just wondered if there was a way of installing google toolbar without administrative privileges? My work computer won't allow me to install programs without admin priv (yes I know this is meant to stop me doing it!) but I wanted to start entering some of the competetions on the Compers board and Google Toolbar has a prefill froms tool that would be very useful for this.
Any ideas?
Thanks

No you can't unfortunately, you need those privileges, hence why it's been locked down to stop extra software getting onto the builds and causing potential problems.
You could run PortableApps with firefox etc from a USB key, if your company permit this instead...0 -
Ok, didn't know if there was a work around...0

Not sure if it is completely safe but when your on the installation screen and is asking where you want to save the program, you could save it in My Documents instead of Program Files. I know this technique works with Mozilla Firefox.Graduated this year.

Remember if you manage to install it, depending on your company, it coudl be a disciplianry offence to install un-approved software. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
it might let you save the program, but it should not let you install it without admin privileges or the correct user rights.Get some gorm.0

Just be careful, at a hospital where my friends works a consultant (medical Dr) was found with "hacking tools" on his PC and was instantly suspended and ended up going through a tribunal.
At the hospital where I work, an ex-IT manager there was found with password decoding utilities on this PC, and since he had only been working there around 6 months so was an instant dismissal and no garden leave.
Like it or not, you never really know what are in any software so this construes a security risk and in some case piracy
Also some organizations like the one I work for scans the pc and does an inventory of all the software on it. This scan happens every day. Also we keep logs of every web site people visit and the length of time on there and the hours they spend surfing and the amount downloaded - every day per person and PC. The top percentage is sent to the department head and personnel - if the sites visited are not deemed work related.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0 -
